The highlights for me in this series so far have been the romance between Claire and Karl as well as the back-story of Karl La Hire becoming Kal-el Albus and the fall of the Balsteros Empire.
First half of this episode is mostly about target practice but the real gem is the second half which covers the fall of the Balsteros Empire and Karl becoming Kal-el. With the way Karl was treated, it’s no surprise that he has deep-seated hatred for Nina
I feel that this episode is a major game changer from the viewer’s point of view. Only a handful of characters know what’s going on and majority of the trainee pilots are in the dark. I’m not going to elaborate on it since it will be major spoilers but I will say that this could change the dynamic of the protagonists if the truth comes out. I doubt it will be resolved in the next 3 episode but I do look forward to seeing how they deal with it.
The storm that the higher-ups have been hinting at has finally arrived. Well ok, it arrived at the end of this episode but you get the idea. The first half of this episode mainly focused on Claire suspecting Kal-el being Karl and Claire being awkward around him while the second half covers Claire’s back-story. At the end of it we get to see the first signs of the enemies that the trainees have been training to fight.
Now that we have our main antagonists, I expect more dog fights from this point forward. Sadly I’m also expecting an increase in suffering as well. Will Kal-el and Claire’s relationship survive the end of the series? Maybe but there’s a big hurdle to deal with first.
